D-Day to Victory

US marines invading NormandyOn June 6, 1944, the largest amphibious assault in history took place. Backed by naval artillary, thousands of British and American soldiers, supported by soldiers from Canada, Poland and France, advanced onto the Normandy beaches. Accompanied by glider-borne troops, these forces began the Allied advance into Nazi-occupied France. This bold action was a major turning point in the Second World War. This was to be the beginning of the end, for Adolf Hitler, and for Nazi Germany.
Battles
Many battles followed D-Day. Notable events incuded the Liberation of Paris, Battle of Arnhem and the Battle of the Bulge before the advance towards Berlin.
People
Thousands of men (and women) took part in (and assisted) Allied efforts. However, World War 2 was, arguably, shaped by the actions of the few: Politicians, Generals, and young war heroes who rose up against near impossible odds. We look into their backgrounds and examine their decisive efforts in helping bring the war to its conclusion.
Quotes
Many of the Politicians and Generals had much to say during their time in command. Characters such as Churchill, Patton and Rommel now live on, often admired, for what they had to say about life, leadership and war.
